LIMITATION OF PERSONALITY DISORDER TREATMENT

WHAT IS LIMITATION PERSONALITY DISORDER?

We are facing a mental disorder that defines those who show prolonged very unstable emotional behavior, with impulsive actions and problematic relationships with others.

The origin of borderline personality disorder, also known as BPD, is not known. Different hypotheses point to genetic, family and social factors.

Risk factors have been established, such as abandonment in childhood or adolescence, an unstructured family environment and communication deficits, or having suffered sexual, physical or emotional abuse.

And while BPD is more commonly diagnosed in women, it doesn’t mean that men can’t get it.

SYMPTOMS OF LIMITATION OF PERSONALITY DISORDER

Some of the symptoms that people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) usually present is the inconsistency of their interests and values, valuing everything in a radically extreme way, changing opinions about others, which causes unobjective, excessive and unstable relationships, fear intense abandonment, inability to accept loneliness, frequent feelings of emptiness and lack of interest, excessive feelings of anger, compulsiveness (including substance use or sexual intercourse), repetitive panic attacks, acts of self-harm (including overdose).

Therefore, this disorder can present among other problems of depression, drug addiction, work, family and social problems and suicide and suicide attempts.

TREATMENT WITH PSYCHOTHERAPY

For the treatment of this disorder, individual psychotherapy is recommended.

With long-term psychotherapy, the person with borderline personality disorder can gradually improve.

Medication can also be given, which can sometimes improve mood swings and cope with depression or other symptoms that accompany this disorder.

Treatment prospects are conditioned by the severity of the disorder and the patient’s acceptance of help.
