## Challenges of Dual Pathology: The Internal Struggle

“Dual pathology is a complex condition characterised by the coexistence of two disorders, usually an addiction and a mental illness, which intertwine and aggravate each other. These challenges can become overwhelming, impacting the quality of life of those who suffer from them.”

1. Addiction and Mental Illness as Partners Addiction, whether to substances or behaviours, and mental illness can co-exist in the same individual. This creates a pernicious cycle where addiction is often used as an attempt at self-treatment to alleviate the symptoms of mental illness. However, this only worsens the situation in the long run.

2. Stigmatisation and Isolation People with dual pathology often face social stigma that complicates help-seeking. Fear of rejection or judgement can lead to isolation, which makes recovery even more difficult.

3. Difficulty in Diagnosis and Treatment Accurate diagnosis of dual pathology can be a challenge in itself, as symptoms of both conditions may overlap or mask each other. This can delay getting appropriate treatment.

4. Risk of Relapse The presence of a mental illness increases the risk of relapse into addiction and vice versa. Simultaneous management of both disorders is essential to prevent relapse and promote sustainable recovery.

5. Impact on Quality of Life Dual pathology can severely affect quality of life, undermining relationships, physical health and financial stability. The road to recovery is difficult, but crucial to regaining control and finding inner peace.

Después de pasar por aquí puedo afirmar sin presunción que el haber elegido esta clínica es una de las mejores decisiones que he tomado. El método no se basa una desintoxicación convencional, se trata de ayudar a encontrar un estilo de vida basado en el bienestar tanto físico como mental en el que las adicciones no tienen cabida. Para ello cuentan con un equipo óptimo de terapeutas que acompañan durante todo el proceso con un desempeño ejemplar. Entré con la idea de desintoxicarme y he salido con la perspectiva de una nueva vida mucho más plena.

Clínicas CITA es mucho más que una Clínica de deshabituación y desintoxicación de adicciones, estuve allí, entré totalmente roto después de años intentando dejar atrás mis adicciones y antes creía que era imposible salir adelante con mi vida.

Puedo asegurar, sin temor a equivocarme, que si alguien sufre un problema de adicción, se cual fuere, esta es la MEJOR clínica del mundo.

En cuanto a enfermeria, cabe destatacar de forma indudable e insustible a Lorena , por su profesionalidad, exquisito trato , control real de la historia década paciente , amabilidad, predisposición y gusto por su trabajo, junta a ella destacaría sin duda alguna a Joana, a la que no se le puede decir más tampoco, es una atención como no había recibido nunca, y he estado en los 2 otros centros más importantes de España.
Como psicóloga, Mari Carmen , sin lugar a dudas ( y mira que he tenido psicólogos a lo largo de mi vida) , la MEJOR.Gran persona , gran gran profesional, una empata brutal , otra de la spersonas que disfrutan de su profesión y saben transmitirlo y llegar al paciente, aunque veces tenga que ser sura dura.
Vamos a Pepi , admisiones
administración y encargada de iNformación telefónica e ingresos, no puede mejor persona , servicial, profesional, BUENA,eficiente, humana…Pepi te quiero.
En cuanto a Monitores Edu, eres muy grande, muuuy buena persona,muy buen profesional y un tío, ESPECIAL, y por último Francisco, otorga monitor, una persona muy joven, muy profesional ,muy preparado, muy buena persona , y que te ayudará siempre a la hora q sea y como sea.
Bueno bueno, y LUISA, PFFF NO TENGO NI PALABRAS, LA MEJOR COCINERA, PERSONA, PROFESIONAL, CARIÑOSA, AMABLE, TRABAJADORA, ..BUENO, SIN PALABRAS..FACIL QUERERTE.
He querido resaltar estos profesionales concretamente, porque realmente lo merecen, y las personas que llegamos como lo hacemos nosotros, si no hubiera profesionales como estos , creo que ninguno saldríamos a delante.

Sin duda un centro donde los profesionales se dejan el alma por ayudar a los adictos sin juzgar y con auténticos valores para la reinserción.
Mención especial a Marta cuchet que aún lucha conmigo por salvarme la vida de esta enfermedad. No hay palabras para describir lo que hace y ha hecho por mi.
Y también quería comentar la profesionalidad de Anaís y su ética a la hora de no cometer intrusismo como en otros centros.
Ya puede valorar gerencia los profesionales que tiene porque gente así hay poca.

He pasado una temporada en CITA y solo puedo decir GRACIAS. Llegué roto, perdido, y me voy con una mochila llena de herramientas, fuerza y esperanza. El equipo profesional es de diez: psicólogos, terapeutas, médicos, educadores… todos volcados en ayudarte con un trato humano, cercano y lleno de respeto. Se nota que están ahí por vocación.
Pero no puedo escribir esta reseña sin mencionar a las verdaderas guardianas del día a día: las chicas de recepción. Siempre con una sonrisa, un gesto amable o una palabra de ánimo cuando más lo necesitas. Y muy especialmente Pepi, que es luz pura. Gracias por tu calidez, por tu paciencia y por hacer que uno se sienta en casa desde el primer día.

También me llevo mucho de mis compañeros. Personas increíbles con las que he compartido risas, lágrimas y momentos de verdad. En CITA he aprendido que no estamos solos, y que pedir ayuda es un acto de valentía.

He estado ingresado 2 meses ingresado en CITA y solo tengo palabras de agradecimiento para todos los profesionales administrativos,monitores,socioterapeutas,psicólogos,psiquiatras y sobretodo a mis compañeros de ingreso.Entre en un momento muy difícil de mi vida y me han ayudado mucho en un entorno idílico en plena naturaleza, terapia con caballos y habitaciones confortables para que todo sea más fácil. Los terapeutas y auxiliares atienden muy bien las necesidades de su paciente, y los recepcionistas responden a todas las dudas y preguntas de forma amable y rápida. En general son todos muy profesionales y serios en su trabajo, además el lugar es agradable y superbonito.

CITA, un centro ideal para ayudar a las personas con problemas de adicción y salud mental. Yo ingresé hace 2 años y medio y no me arrepiento de nada, fue una etapa mala de mi vida, gracias a saber aprovechar la oportunidad que me dieron tanto mi familia como Cita ahora soy otro ser distinto, ánimo a toda esa persona que necesite ayuda que se deje ayudar por profesionales de verdad, animaros para daros una segunda oportunidad.

## DUAL PATHOLOGY CENTRE

In the dual pathology centre of Clínicas CITA, in its commitment to provide comprehensive and effective care for substance addictions and behavioural addictions, it has integrated a specific therapeutic plan for those patients with a diagnosis of dual pathology, as these patients require a specialised strategy and a longer and more careful follow-up over time.

Since the Dual Pathology Specific Unit was set up in 2009, CITA’s residential centres have been adapting to the needs and capacities of this type of patient.

In this way, we have been able to verify that individualised attention, small groups, a single point of reference throughout the treatment of dual pathology and the programme we have developed, increase adherence to treatment and a faster adaptation to the programme.

During their stay at CITA, users benefit from medical, psychotherapeutic and socio-educational interventions adapted to each specific case: psychiatric care available 24 hours a day, small therapeutic groups and individual, group and family psychotherapy (individual attention from the socio-therapist a minimum of 3 times a week and from the psychologist twice a week).

There are also 2 sessions per week of PAE and equine therapy, cognitive behavioural workshops and psycho-educational activities adapted to the competences and difficulties of each individual. He will also participate in occupational therapy based on gardening and vegetable gardening.
